Did you know that from an energetic perspective, many of the common health problems in our society stem from imbalances with the spleen?

Let's take a quick look at the understanding how different aspects of the spleen impact health on an energetic level.

Following this discussion, a qi gong color visualization is given to help you re-balance the spleen and facilitate healing health challenges.

Energetic Theory: Spleen

The spleen is energetically responsible for transforming the energy of food (gu qi) into nutritive energy (ying qi) which is then combined to form other types of energy in the body.

Thus, the spleen plays role in metabolism, maintaining healthy weight, and nourishing the internal organs with nutrition and vital energy.

Common health imbalances with this aspect of the spleen may include:

  • Challenges with weight (under or over weight).
  • Fatigue.
  • Difficulty absorbing nutrients.
  • GERD and other digestive disorders.

The spleen is also responsible energetically for transforming the energy of spiritual and life experiences into a form that we can use to grow our wisdom and spiritual intelligence (known as the "yi" in the Chinese medicine system).

Examples of common manifestations of weakness with this aspect of the spleen includes:

  • Anxiety.
  • Lack of feeling centered or grounded.
  • Lowered ability to create and nurture a home environment.
  • Lowered ability to allow the spirit to lead one's journey in life.

The spleen also energetically rules the four limbs or muscles.

Common manifestations of weakness with ruling the muscles may include:

  • Conditions that result in muscular weakness and fatigue including fibromyalgia.
  • Frequent muscular strains.

The spleen is also responsible for holding the organs and blood in place.

Common health imbalances with this aspect of the spleen may include:

  • Prolapsed organs (such as bladder or uterus).
  • Hemorrhaging, frequent nosebleeds, or lowered ability to clot appropriately after injuries or surgery that creates bleeding.

Qi Gong Spleen Visualization

To nourish the energy of the spleen and balance the manifestations described above, perform the following qi gong color visualization:

  • Imagine a field of yellow daffodils, chrysanthemums and daisies with dark and light yellow colors.
  • Exhale deeply for a count of five. Inhale for a count of five.
  • Visualize the rich yellow colors of the flowers flooding into your right hand.
  • Continue breathing deeply.
  • Place your right hand over your spleen on the left side of the body under the rib cage.
  • Imagine the energy of the yellow flowers filling and flooding the spleen bringing warmth and vibrancy, quelling anxiety, and also grounding your energy.
  • Continue breathing deeply.
  • Imagine circulating this lovely yellow energy from the spleen throughout the entire the body, the energy spreading layer by layer throughout all the tissues, all the internal organs, all the muscles.
  • Place hands palm over palm, facing inward over the lower abdomen. Imagine storing vital energy in the lower abdomen.
  • Continue breathing deeply.
  • Smile. You are now ready and calm for all that you need to do next in your day, afternoon or evening.
